HOST FAMILY RECRUITING PROGRAM

FEBRUARY 18, 2018      HCSL BOARD OF DIRECTORS

As players register, the Houston Collegiate Summer League looks for help hosting 1 to 2 players.

General
We are looking for candidates interested in baseball, helping student-athletes and who are dedicated to showing off Texas Pride and helping to making our players’ summer experience positive and memorable. The HCSL's host families will spend time with their player(s) and often to the point where they become part of the family. Players typically arrive around Memorial Weekend and will leave in late July or early August at the conclusion of the season. Since the HCSL does not have the long travel as many of the leagues across the US, days off and non-game days allow the player(s) and host families to grow bonds that will last a lifetime. The HCSL benefits greatly from host family support as host families help shape the players perception of the organization and community. Host families significantly contribute to the success of the team.

Transportation
It will be helpful if your residence is close to the NW Houston area. This allows players to be close to the parks and also keeps players closer together. Some players will have a vehicle but there will be some that do not. We are looking to the players to car pool or take public transportation; however that is not always in their best interest for game/practice times. You are not required to provide transportation but please feel free to offer if you would like. There may be instances where your player asks for a ride.

Bedroom
Your player(s) must have a private room for sleep and study. If you host two players, it is fine to have them share one room, but two separate beds must be provided. Each player’s bed should be dressed with clean linens and have a pillow. If you have young children, please ask them to respect the student’s privacy and belongings. The room should also have adequate light and ventilation.

Bathroom
A private bathroom is not required. If a player is sharing a family bathroom, they should have a place for personal grooming items and the door should lock from the inside for privacy.

Laundry
Players are expected to do their own laundry, but they will need access to laundry facilities including a washer and dryer.

Kitchen
Players must have access to the kitchen and utensils to cook and eat meals and snacks. Please provide players with adequate cupboard space and shelf space in the refrigerator to store personal food items.

Hosting a HCSL player can be a rewarding experience for the host family.

Player's Schedule
Players will play a 21+ game summer schedule and many elect to participate in daily workout programs. Most games will be played on Mondays at 7:00 pm with a single 9-inning game and on Wednesdays at 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm with a doubleheader.  Showtime for pregame is team designated but play on 1-1.5 hours prior.  The league will sponsor several special events over the summer which will also keep the players busy. Weekends and a period over around the 5th of July will be scheduled for down time and any make up games.

Host Family Program Benefits:
Hosting a HCSL player can be a rewarding experience for the host family and the player. Besides the experience, the host family benefits include:
